Why does it make us so uncomfortable to see a conjoined twin? In this performance, L. A. Raeven explore this tension in embodying a creature that refers both to the divine and to the horror. This performance expresses ‘the concept of the self’ that the artist duo is exploring in their eponymous exhibition at the gallery.
Naakt dat raakt is a contemporary art exhibition at Museum Arnhem that explores how artists use the nude body to address themes like freedom, identity, norms, and inequality. Rather than showing idealized figures, the exhibition presents real bodies in varied forms, ages, genders, and experiences — encouraging visitors to rethink how we see and understand the human body in art. The exhibition runs from 14 March to 20 September 2026 and includes works from the museum’s collection alongside significant international loans.
In their ongoing exploration of selfhood, artist duo L.A. Raeven (the identical twins Liesbeth and Angelique Raeven) probe the fraught terrain between identity and mirror image, autonomy and dependence. Their latest exhibition, The Concept of Self at Ellen de Bruijne Projects in Amsterdam, delves deeper into this territory — making visible the tension between being oneself and being reflected.
We are pleased to announce our upcoming solo exhibition The Concept of Self at Ellen de Bruijne Projects, located at Singel 372 in Amsterdam.
In The Concept of Self, we explore the boundaries between autonomy and control, identity and performance, vulnerability and resistance. The exhibition brings together new and recent works that reflect our ongoing interest in the fragmented and constructed nature of the self within contemporary society.

Elsewhere, another duo by the name of L.A. Raeven, who are twins and have been closely collaborating their entire life, created a distressed robot doll named Annelies (Liesbeth + Angelique).
What remains when we die? A question that people deal with very differently. For example, what remains of an artist's work often depends on the market value and whether someone takes care of the estate.
